Dani Alves' wife, Joana Sanz has revealed the imprisoned Brazilian defender is unwilling to sign the divorce papers amid the ongoing rape case.
Dani Alves’ rape case doesn’t seem like a story set to end soon.
The 39-year-old Brazilian defender is currently in temporary detention at the Brians II prison after he was accused of raping a 23-year-old lady at the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona.
Alves who has since been charged to court is currently pushing for his release on bail as an investigation into the incident continues.
However, the prosecutor's office remains strongly against his temporary release due to his economic as well as fear of an escape, despite the footballer’s promise to always make himself available whenever summoned by the authorities.
Alves, who was arrested on December 31, has appealed at least 4 times in court via his legal team led by famous lawyer Cristobal Martel.
The rape allegations levelled against Alves has also seen his relationship crash with his wife Joana Sanz, deleting every photo of herself and the footballer on her social media pages.
Joana Sanz has also left Spain to begin a new life, away from all the drama surrounding her husband’s rape charges.
Pulse Sports previously reported that the Spanish model already took to social media via her official Instagram page to announce her separation from the former Barcelona and Juventus defender.
Joana Sanz gives update on divorce from Dani Alves
Joana Sanz who has since denounced her husband through her social networks in her bid to end her relationship with the former FC Barcelona player, confirmed that she had begun proceedings for her divorce.
Sanz recently took to her Instagram page to reveal details of the divorce through her Instagram stories.
According to her, Alves is refusing to sign the divorce papers and end their relationship.
"Yes we are in divorce proceedings, which he is refusing and that complicates everything", she wrote as revealed by Dario AS.
Joana Sanz also further dispelled reports that she was still benefitting financially from the imprisoned footballer.
"No, I am not receiving any money, I don't understand the need for making up news" she said.
This news comes just one day after Joana herself shared some images of how she was making a move, stacking large boxes while captioning the post with the phrase "Closing stages".
Why is Joana Sanz divorcing Dani Alves?
Pulse Sports previously reported that Dani Alves was arrested for alleged sexual assault on a 23-year-old lady at a Barcelona nightclub.
Alves was taken into custody after the allegation was made against him on December 30, 2022.
He was then taken to the Ciutat de la Justicia, where he attended a court hearing.
He was sent to jail by the court without bail, while an investigation continues on the case.
Should Alves be found guilty of the rape charges, the former Pumas defender could face a sentence of between eight to 10 years in prison.
