Engin Firat has made 11 changes to the original squad that travelled to Juba for their first leg CHAN 2025 qualifying encounter against South Sudan, where they lost 2-0
Harambee Stars’ head coach Engin Firat has overhauled his lineup, introducing 11 new players as they prepare for the second-leg match against South Sudan in the ongoing CHAN 2025 qualifiers.
Having arrived in Kampala ahead of Sunday’s game at Nelson Mandela Stadium, Firat has set his sights on testing fresh talents while aiming for a respectable performance, despite Kenya’s automatic qualification as co-hosts alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
Firat retained goalkeepers Farouk Shikalo and Byrne Omondi, while opting to release the promising U-20 star Ibrahim Wanzala back to his club.

Why Gor Mahia coach is not panicking following shock defeat to Nairobi City Stars
Gor Mahia suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to City Stars in Machakos last Monday, which made alot of fans go berserk, even mobbing captain Philemon Otieno to demand an apology.
In defense, only Daniel Sakari from Kenya Police and Sylvester Owino of Gor Mahia retained their places, as Alphonce Omija, Musa Mohammed, Geoffrey Ochieng, Bernard Ondiek, and Brian Eshihanda returned to their respective teams.
Firat has enlisted Abud Omar (Kenya Police FC), Siraj Mohammed (Bandari), Ian Karani (Kariobangi Sharks), David Ochieng (Kenya Police FC), and Charles Momanyi of Tusker to reinforce the backline.
The midfield saw a similar shift, with Fidel Origa (Bandari), Caleb Olilo (Posta Rangers), and Mooitian Leshan (Ulinzi Stars) brought in to inject fresh energy. Andrés Odhiambo (Kariobangi Sharks), Clifford Otieno (Nairobi City Stars), Boniface Muchiri (Ulinzi Stars), and Matthias Isogol (Mara Sugar) did not make the cut for this match.
In the forward lineup, AFC Leopards’ duo Victor Omune and Sydney Lokale, as well as Shabana’s Matthew Tegisi, were dropped, while Ryan Ogam (Tusker FC), Moses Shuma (Kakamega Homeboyz), and Francis Kahiro (KCB) earned their call-ups.
The traveling squad, a combination of experienced players and rising stars, is ready to confront South Sudan in this crucial match. With a blend of seasoned leadership and emerging potential, Harambee Stars are keen to leave a strong impression and further demonstrate their prowess as CHAN 2025 approaches.
