He clocked an incredible 9.99seconds to emerge champion in the 100m dash at a keenly contested race in Benin at the weekend.

The 20-year-old, with the feat, which is also his personal best, became the third Nigerian to run sub-10 on home soil in Nigeria's history.

Ashe joins an elite list

Ashe has joined an elite list of sprinters in Nigeria’s athletics history after his excellent performance in Benin.

As the third to run below 10 seconds in 100m, he joins an elite list that includes legendary sprinters like Deji Aliu and Uchenna Emedolu, who ran 9.98s, 9.95s and 9.97s respectively in 2003.

According to his former team, Making of Champions, it was the former fastest man, Aliu, who discovered Ashe during the 2018 MoC Athletics Trials in Ughelli, Delta State.

Last year, Ashe received 15 US Collegiate Scholarship offers but settled for the University of Tennessee, where he went on to win NCAA 60m Bronze & 100m Silver and the SEC 100m Title within just 6 months as a freshman, as per Making of Champions
