Sturridge believes Salah's consistency and impressive statistics make him a top contender for the prestigious award.

"We're talking Ballon d'Or now. If we're not talking Ballon d'Or with Mohamed Salah, then it's getting out of hand.
"We have to start putting him in that conversation now and saying, 'I don't even know if he's had a top five vote or a top three vote yet,'" Sturridge said.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher is feeling the heat after his comments that have been deemed disrespectful towards the Africa Cup of Nations.
When asked why Salah has not been in the running for the Ballon d'Or before, Sturridge attributed it to the award's history of favoring players from La Liga.
"The history of the award, typically it goes to someone in La Liga," he said.
