Chrisantus Uche was the hero for Getafe as he made his official debut in the LaLiga from third division.

It was an impressive start to the 2024/25 La Liga season as 21-year-old Nigerian forward Christantus Uche made an unforgettable debut for Getafe, scoring a crucial equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Athletic Club at San Mames.

Uche, a summer signing from AD Ceuta FC in Spain's third tier, showcased his versatility and goal-scoring instinct in the brilliant encounter.

Originally a centre-back who transitioned to midfield, Uche was thrust into a striker role due to Getafe's injury concerns. The decision paid off handsomely for the visitors.

Athletic Club's Oihan Sancet opened the scoring with a stunning strike, netting the first goal of the new La Liga campaign. However, Getafe's resilience, spearheaded by Uche, ensured they left with a valuable point.

The Nigerian youngster had an earlier opportunity denied by Athletic's debutant goalkeeper Alex Padilla. Undeterred, Uche found the back of the net in the 65th minute, rising above former Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera to head home the equaliser.

Uche's journey from Spain's Hypermotion (third division) to scoring in La Liga marks a remarkable ascent for the former youth international.

A perfect debut for Nigeria's Uche.

The Nigerian listed as one of the players to watch this season didn’t just score the equaliser but was also the most fouled player, he won the most duels and also created one chance and made one key pass.

Meanwhile, the match saw late drama as Euro 2024 star Nico Williams came off the bench for Athletic Club, testing Getafe's goalkeeper with three impressive attempts. However, the visitors held firm to secure a well-earned draw.

This result serves as a promising start for both Getafe and their new Nigerian talent, Uche, as they embark on the new La Liga season.
