The Maldini dynasty reached new heights during the international break after a third-generation star debuted for Italy.

Daniel Maldini made history on Monday by becoming the third generation of his family to represent Italy in international football, as the Azzurri secured a convincing 4-1 victory over Israel in the UEFA Nations League.

The 23-year-old midfielder made his debut as a substitute in the 74th minute, following in the illustrious footsteps of his father, Paolo, and grandfather, Cesare.

The match took place at the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine, where Paolo Maldini, a legendary figure in Italian football with 126 caps to his name, watched proudly from the stands.

Cesare Maldini, Daniel's grandfather, earned 14 caps for Italy before transitioning to a managerial role. This milestone marks a unique moment in Italian football history, as it is the first time that three generations of a family have donned the national jersey.

After the match, Daniel expressed his joy at making his debut: “I’m happy that my parents came here; we’ll talk when I get home,” according to CNN. “It was a strong, positive emotion. I am very happy to have played and that the match went well.”

He also acknowledged the legacy of his family, stating his hope to contribute quality to the team.

Italy took an early lead with goals from Mateo Retegui and Giovanni Di Lorenzo, before Mohammad Abu Fani pulled one back for Israel.

However, Davide Frattesi and Di Lorenzo added two more goals to secure Italy's position at the top of their Nations League group with ten points from four matches.

As Daniel embarks on his international career, he aims to honor the Maldini name while carving out his own path in football.

The young midfielder currently plays for Serie A club Monza and is eager to make an impact on the national team as they prepare for upcoming matches against Belgium and France next month.
