Overlooked by the Super Eagles of Nigeria but in fine form for his club in the Europa League after going home with the match ball.

Chuba Akpom, the 28-year-old Nigerian-eligible striker, made a compelling case for a Super Eagles call-up with a stunning hat-trick performance in Ajax's Europa League qualifier against Jagiellonia Bialystok.

The Dutch giants took a significant step towards the group stages with a comprehensive 4-1 away victory, largely thanks to Akpom's heroics.

In a display of clinical finishing, Akpom found the back of the net three times in just 69 minutes of play.

He opened the scoring early in the 10th minute, setting the tone for Ajax's dominant performance. The striker then added two more goals in quick succession in the second half, scoring in the 61st and 69th minutes, via a penalty, before being substituted off in the 72nd minute.

This hat-trick not only showcased Akpom's goal-scoring ability but also highlighted his potential value to the Nigerian national team.

Despite being eligible to represent Nigeria, Akpom has yet to receive a call-up to the Super Eagles squad. His performance in this high-stakes European fixture could serve as a timely reminder of his talents to the Nigerian football authorities.

With the next international window approaching in September, Akpom's form couldn't have come at a better time. His ability to perform on the European stage for a club of Ajax's stature adds weight to his credentials for national team consideration.

Ajax's commanding lead in this first leg puts them in a strong position to progress to the Europa League group stages. For Akpom, however, this match may prove to be more than just a step towards European competition - it could be the catalyst for international recognition.
