Some Nigerian players were not that lucky to save their respective teams from relegation at this weekend round of matches. Three new Nigerian stars will join Joe Aribo and Paul Onuachu who dropped with Southampton recently.

As the major leagues in Europe are winding up this season, it has been mixed fortunes for Super Eagles players plying their trade this campaign.

With Victor Osimhen’s Napoli already crowned champions of Italy, other Nigerian stars are on the quest on helping their teams qualify for Europe or more importantly avoiding the drop.

These weekend of matches proved that some Nigerian players will join the likes of already relegated Southampton stars Joe Aribo and Paul Onuachu.

Here are 3 Nigerian players who got relegated with their respective teams this weekend

1. David Okereke

Following his summer move from Club Brugge to newly-promoted Cremonese, the future looked bright for the Nigerian striker who wanted to break into the mainstream Super Eagles team.

The 25-year-old has scored some superb goals this season but it was not enough to save his side who became the second team after Sampdoria to be relegated in Serie A.

The former Nigeria U-23 international has scored against some top clubs this season including a cracker against AC Milan.

2. Cyriel Dessers

The out-of-favour Super Eagles striker who was among the top goalscorers in the Conference League last season while playing for Feryenoord, moved to Italy to try his luck with Cremonese.

Dessers who enjoyed some game time when Gernot Rohr was Super Eagles coach could not help his side as they suffered to a crushing 5-1 defeat to Bologna which confirmed their relegation.

The 26-year-old netted six goals this season playing as a second striker for compatriot Okereke.

3. Chidera Ejuke

The exciting Hertha Berlin winger will not be playing in the Bundesliga next season after his club were confirmed to be relegated into the second division.

The CSKA Moscow loanee could return to Russia or decide to stay with the Berlin outfit who were the first team to be relegated in the German topflight division.

The 23-year-old has made three appearances for the Super Eagles and his last was in the group game phase of AFCON 2022.
