43-year-old legend nets stunning free kick as Kano Pillars welcome Oga Boys in style

The newly promoted Nigeria Premier Football League side, Ikorodu City has suffered a defeat on their season debut.

The NPFL football season kicked off fully on Sunday after the opening day game between defending champions Rangers and El-Kanemi Warriors which ended in a draw.

43-year-old Kano Pillars legend Rabiu Ali continued from where he left off last season as he bagged a brace against the newly promoted side, Ikorodu City.

The Oga boys began their journey in the elite league with a heavy defeat at the Muhammed Dillon stadium in Katsina.

Rabiu Alli was too good for Ikorodu City.

Mustapha Umar scored the opening goal in the 59th minute to give the host the lead, while Pillars captain Rabiu Ali's fantastic free-kick doubled the lead in the 70th minute.

Ali bagged his second goal in the 80th minute to seal the first victory of the season for the Sai Guda boys.

In other centres, FIFA U17 World Cup-winning coach Amuneke suffered defeat in his debut match for Heartland when they hosted nine-time champions Enyimba.

Remo stars defeated Abia Warriors away from home while Sunshine Stars started on a good note after defeating Bayelsa United at their adopted home ground in Ijebu Ode.

Nasarawa United and Shooting stars shared the spoils in Lafia while Niger Tornadoes defeated Kwara United at home.
