Fresh from their Libyan turmoil, Super Eagles players are set to light up Europe's top leagues this weekend
From Serie A to Ligue 1, this weekend promises exciting matchups across Europe’s top leagues, and several Nigerian stars are set to play pivotal roles for their respective clubs.
Maduka Okoye — AC Milan vs Udinese
Super Eagles star Maduka Okoye has been one of the standout goalkeepers in Serie A this season, helping Udinese to fifth on the table, only three points off table-topping Napoli.
Udinese take on fellow European hopefuls AC Milan this weekend, hoping to earn their fifth win of the season and put some distance between themselves and the Rossoneri, who are currently two points below Le Zebrette.
Okoye could also face-off against his compatriot Samuel Chukwueze, who has struggled for game time this season with the Rossoneri and is a candidate for a January exit.
Victor Boniface — Bayer Leverkusen vs Frankfurt
After a disappointing outing with the Super Eagles fraught with on-and-off-field problems, Victor Boniface will be glad to return to familiar surroundings in the Bundesliga.
Boniface has scored four goals in six Bundesliga games for Bayer Leverkusen and could add to his impressive goal tally in Germany this season when the reigning champions host Frankfurt on Saturday.
Chidera Ejuke — Barcelona vs Sevilla
Rated as one of the best dribblers in the world at the moment, Nigeria’s “New Jay Jay” Chidera Ejuke will get the chance to grab more headlines when his Sevilla side travel to Barcelona in LaLiga.
The Blaugrana are currently top of the Spanish league table, but Ejuke’s form for Sevilla would be the biggest threat to Barcelona keeping their place as number one in LaLiga.
Akor Adams — Montpellier vs Marseille
Sitting in 17th place, one place above last in Ligue 1, Montpellier need a miracle against title-chasing Marseille, and just as they have done so many times in the past, they must turn to Nigerian striker Akor Adams.
Adams scored a brace in Montpellier’s only win of the season so far and has scored three goals and provided one assist in six Ligue 1 starts and the 24-year-old forward will be at the forefront again when Montpellier take on Marseille.
Moses Simon — Nantes vs Nice
Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has been in incredible form since returning from a lengthy injury and has been important for both club and country this season.
Simon has provided six goal contributions in 10 games for club and country this campaign, including an assist for Nigeria’s only goal against Libya.
The forward will have the chance to add to this number when Nantes take on Nice in Ligue 1 this weekend, with both sides pushing for a European spot.
