26-year-old striker does the unthinkable - denies Real Madrid and Barcelona something nobody has for 15 years
For the first time in 15 years, the LALIGA top scorer was not from Real Madrid or Barcelona thanks to a striker who scored 24 goals from an xG of 24.3.
Here is a breakdown of six (6) of the most compelling storylines that have made the 23/24 LALIGA season breathtaking and memorable.
1. Real Madrid Clinch Record 36th LaLiga Title
Real Madrid secured their 36th league championship, extending their record as the most successful team in LaLiga history.
Carlo Ancelotti's side showcased remarkable consistency, losing just once all season and potentially completing an unbeaten campaign at the Bernabéu.
LaLiga ambassador Fernando Morientes praised Real Madrid's regularity and all-around excellence as the key factors behind their title triumph.
"The key to success is regularity, that's what decides the LaLiga title," said LaLiga Ambassador and former Real Madrid star Fernando Morientes during a zoom call with journalists around the world including Pulse Sports Nigeria.
"Real Madrid scored the most goals in LaLiga EA SPORTS and conceded the fewest, it's logical that they should be champions. They've done so many things right and really deserve the title."
2. Girona FC Make Historic Champions League Debut
Míchel Sánchez's Girona FC sealed a remarkable third-place finish, the highest in the club's 94-year history.
The Catalan club will make their debut in the UEFA Champions League next season, joining Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atlético de Madrid.
Míchel credits the team's ability to manage expectations and overcome both internal and external challenges as crucial to their success.
"Knowing how to manage that expectation has helped us to reach that goal," said Míchel.
"We've had to face very difficult moments this season, both internal and external. With the players, we always spoke about reaching the Champions League, never about winning LaLiga."
3. Athletic Club End 40-Year Copa del Rey Drought
Athletic Club lifted the Copa del Rey trophy for the first time in 40 years, providing an emotional farewell for club captain Iker Muniain and legend Raúl García.
Oscar de Marcos, the new Athletic Club captain, believes the team's past experiences in losing finals helped them avoid the same mistakes and secure the historic triumph.
"Losing finals in the past gave us the experience to avoid those same mistakes again," said Oscar de Marcos, the new Athletic Club captain.
"Sailing on the gabarra after 40 years was incredible, just incredible."
4. Isco Spearheads Real Betis' Resurgence
Former Real Madrid star Isco Alarcón enjoyed a sensational comeback season, leading Real Betis to a UEFA Conference League spot.
Isco's performances have propelled him into contention for the LaLiga Player of the Season award which was eventually won by Los Blancos superstar Jude Bellingham.
5. Sørloth, Dovbyk fight for Pichichi Top Scorer
Villarreal CF's Norwegian striker Alexander Sørloth emerged as the frontrunner for the prestigious Pichichi top scorer award heading into the final round of matches.
Sørloth's goalscoring exploits have been crucial in securing Villarreal's Europa League qualification.
However, he would lose to Artem Dovbyk, who was on a rampage as Girona completed the season with a 7-0 win against Granada, with the Ukrainian emerging Pchichi winner after a sensational hattrick.
6. LaLiga Awards to Crown Best of 2023/24 Season
The annual LaLiga Awards ceremony was held alongside the KAFD Globe Soccer European Awards on May 28th in Sardinia, Italy.
The ceremony honoured the best players, coaches, and performances of the 2023/24 LaLiga EA SPORTS season.
