Victor Boniface has taken to social media to plead with Nigerians after his return to the score sheet for German champions Bayer Leverkusen following another barren outing for the Super Eagles.

Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has issued a heartfelt plea to Nigerian fans, asking for patience after scoring in Bayer Leverkusen’s 3-1 victory over Bochum on Friday night, just days after another goalless outing for the Super Eagles.

The 24-year-old striker took to his Instagram story moments after the Bundesliga win, addressing the mounting criticism over his poor international form.

Boniface tapped in a close-range effort on the hour mark, helping Leverkusen secure three vital points in their title defense.

The goal, in his first start in seven matches, stood in stark contrast to his struggles in Nigeria’s recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, where he failed to find the net.

Super Eagles fans have grown increasingly frustrated with the forward, whose prolific club record (11 goals in 24 appearances this season) hasn’t translated to the national team.

“9ja plz be patient with me, the goal will come,” Boniface posted, a direct appeal to his compatriots following Friday’s match.

Osimhen scored all the goals against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

The message, raw and unfiltered, reflects the pressure he’s under to replicate his Bayer form in the green and white jersey.

For Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen, Boniface has been a revelation since his 2023 move from Union SG, but his barren run for Nigeria, still without a competitive goal since his 2023 debut, has fueled debate.

The striker’s latest club heroics, paired with his candid plea, will surely split opinions. Some fans could see a young star grappling with high expectations, while others demand instant results from a player thriving in one of Europe’s top leagues.

As Leverkusen chase another Bundesliga crown, Boniface’s next Super Eagles chance looms large, will Nigeria’s patience pay off, or will the wait for his international breakthrough drag on?

For now, he’s banking on goals in Germany to keep the faith alive back home.
