This Friday morning witnessed President Ruto presiding over the groundbreaking ceremony for Kenya's upcoming international stadium, named Talanta Sports City.
Anticipated to host certain ACON 2027 matches, including potentially the opening ceremony or final, this new sports facility is exclusively dedicated to football, deviating from the traditional inclusion of running tracks in our previous stadiums. Nevertheless, an uncovered outside pitch with a running track will be provided separately.
Situated at Jamhuri sports ground, Talanta Stadium will accommodate 60,000 spectators.
The design departs from the old 'shield-like' structure, adopting a more modern and illuminated appearance at night.

FOOTBALL President Ruto officially launches groundbreaking of Talanta Sports City
The President has officially launched the construction of the stadium which will host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The construction timeline spans from March 2024 to December 2025, just under two years. With Kenya set to host AFCON in 2027, this time frame allows a buffer for unforeseen delays.
China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) will be responsible for constructing the stadium, under the supervision of the Kenya Defense Forces.
President Ruto expressed his commitment to personally inspecting the site every three months to monitor progress.
While the exact cost of the stadium remains undisclosed, expectations point to a figure in the billions of Shillings.
Drawing a comparison to the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ivory Coast, which hosted this year's AFCON finals and also accommodates 60,000 spectators, its construction cost $257 million (equivalent to Ksh37.6 billion) six years ago.
Hence, it is reasonable to assume that the Talanta Stadium project will fall within a similar cost range.
