A Mosquito FC, who had some Gor Mahia players turn out for them in an amateur match, have distanced themselves from blame even as K’Ogalo consider punishment for their errant stars.

A Mosquito FC, the side that have landed a section of Gor Mahia players in trouble, has distanced itself from claims of deliberating allowing the K’Ogalo stars to feature into an unsanctioned match.

The amateur side has sprung to prominence following Gor Mahia’s 2-1 loss to Nairobi City Stars, a match that made headlines for what happened after, rather than on the pitch.

Four Gor Mahia players Paul Ochuoga, Chris Ochieng, Enoch Morrison and Musa Masika were dropped by coach Leonardo Neiva from the matchday squad after he learnt that they took part in the unactioned match, where they reportedly represented A Mosquito FC.

K’Ogalo fans were not happy after the defeat, and accosted the players while demanding answers, with club captain Philemon Otieno having to calm some of them down but they made their feelings known about their displeasure for the manner in which their team played while calling out those who featured in the amateur match.

“A Mosquito FC is not a tournament-focused team. Our members attend matches to support the sport, connect with fans and enjoy the atmosphere in their personal capacity,” they said via a statement posted on social media.

“For us, football is more than just competition, it is about bringing people together to share in a passion that creates lasting friendships, connections and community bonds.

“Our players join these events as individuals looking to network and be part of the game they love. As a collective, we believe football is a unique platform for personal growth where our members can develop life skills and strengthen relationships both on and off the pitch.”

Meanwhile, the Gor Mahia players are facing the prospect of further punishment from the club over their decision to feature in the unsanctioned match.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Gor Mahia vice chairman Francis Wasuna said they are awaiting recommendations from Neiva before striking as they bid to root out indiscipline and unprofessionalism.

"We are considering not paying them for the day they missed on the matchday squad due to their involvement in an unsanctioned tournament. They put themselves in a situation where they could not work on that particular day," said Wasuna.
