The Umuahia side would love the chance to lift the NPFL this season after comfortably claiming bragging rights in the first Oriental derby of the campaign.
Abia Warriors boss Erasmus Onuh is a happy manager at the moment after his side kicked off their 2023 NPFL season with a win.
Warriors shocked their more illustrious hosts Enugu Rangers 2-0 in a Group B game played at Akwa to kickstart the new season on a winning note.
Both goals were scored in either half by Bello Lukman and Yakub Hammed to give the Warriors bragging rights in the Oriental derby.
Their manager spoke to the media after the game and expressed happiness with how his side haha started the new season.
Onuh praises his players
Speaking after the game, a satisfied Onuh stated that all his players did was work hard and be disciplined.
According to him, his players were fantastic and are some of the most disciplined in the league.
“There is nothing different (we did against Rangers than hard work,” he said moments after the game.
“I have boys who are fantastic and disciplined, I think we are one of the (most) disciplined teams in the league.”
Onuh not looking far ahead While Abia Warriors have started the new campaign with the best possible manager, with a win and clean sheet, Onuh isn’t looking too far ahead.
“We will take it as it comes,” he added. “We have taken it as it came. I can’t tell you I am going to do this. I will take the game as they come.”
Onuh will love to win the league
However, the experienced gaffer was quick to add that he would love the opportunity to lift the NPFL this season.
“If the opportunity comes for me to win the league, I am happy. But you know, you can’t say. You only know about yourself not someone else. So, you take them (games) as they come. Every match has a different preparation,” he concluded.
Up next for Onuh and his Warriors is a home game against newly promoted Bayelsa United in Umuahia on Wednesday.
