AFCON 2023: How Ademola Lookman’s absence hurts Atalanta
The Super Eagles attacker has already joined Jose Peseiro’s team for the Africa Cup of Nations, and he ought to be a massive miss for Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta.
Milan and Atalanta
The Rossoneri secured a spot in the last eight after an impressive and commanding victory against Cagliari in the round of 16.
Luka Jovic was the star of the show after he netted a brace, with Chaka Traore adding another goal before Rafael Leao wrapped things up to give Milan a convincing 4-1 win and an easy passage.
For Atalanta, it was also a smooth sail following a comfortable 3-1 win against Sassuolo in their round of 16 tie.
Charles De Ketelaere stole the show at Bergamo, scoring a brace, with Aleksey Miranchuk completing the win.
While Chukwueze featured from start to finish for Milan against Cagliari, his compatriot, Lookman, missed the action against Sassuolo at the Gwess Stadium.
Chukwueze and Lookman to miss quarterfinals
However, Pulse Sports Nigeria can confirm that the Super Eagles forward will miss that quarterfinal clash slated for San Siro next week.
Samu, 24, and Ademola, 26, have since left their respective clubs to join the Super Eagles ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.
The two wingers have been training with the Jose Peseiro-led team as they continue preparation ahead of the tournament slated to kick off on January 13th.
Nigeria will face Equatorial Guinea in its AFCON opener 24 hours after the competition kicked off.
