Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman loses Best African Players award to Mohamed Salah
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has beaten Ademola Lookman to Marca’s Best African Players award.
Lookman, who plays for Atalanta, is looking to follow in the footsteps of his teammate Victor Osimhen, who was crowned Africa's Player of the Year for 2023.
The 27-year-old forward has had an exceptional year, where he led Nigeria’s Super Eagles to the AFCON 2023 final with three goals and also fired Atalanta to their first-ever European glory with the historic Europa League success.
These feats and being Africa’s only player in the 2024 Ballon d’Or where he finished 14th make the Atalanta star a standout candidate for the prestigious honour.
In a post on X.com, CAF captioned their post "getting familiar with Marrakech sights ahead of the big event," as Lookman and his competitors prepare for the awards ceremony scheduled for December 16 in Marrakech, Morocco.
His remarkable performances have continued this season for La Dea, with his goals firing the club to the top of Serie A and a good spot in the Champions League.
As anticipation builds for the award ceremony, Lookman's achievements throughout 2024 position him as a strong favourite to take home the trophy and become only the second Nigerian to win in consecutive years.
Meanwhile, a Nigerian journalist has sparked controversy and debate among Nigerians and Super Eagles fans after revealing a dream he had.
Asukwo Oduo, a Pulse Sports Editor and analyst, publicly claimed that he had a dream in which Lookman did not win the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award.
