Ademola Lookman powers Atalanta to Coppa Italia final with goal and assist against Fiorentina
Nigeria's Ademola Lookman scored and assisted late in the game to confirm Atalanta's triumph over Fiorentina and book a Coppa Italia final slot against Juventus.
Why was Ademola Lookman nominated for Serie A POTM?
The award considers performances between gameweek 31 and 34, with La Dea facing Cagliari, Hellas Verona, Monza and Empoli in that period.
Lookman was pivotal for the Bergamaschi across those fixtures, strikingly notching an assist for Gianluca Scamacca in the defeat by Cagliari, setting up Charles De Ketelaere and El Bilal Toure's goals in the 2-1 triumph over the Biancorossi before scoring his ninth Serie A goal last weekend against Empoli.
Lookman has been involved in four goals since the start of April — one goal, three assists — a tally outdoing everyone in Serie A in that period, with Hakan Calhanoglu and Alexis Saelemaekers matching the Atalanta forward's goal contributions in April.
Who else has been nominated along with Lookman?
Lookman is competing with Serie A champion Calhanoglu (Inter), Paulo Dybala (Roma), Luis Alberto (Lazio), Matteo Politano (Napoli) and Albert Gudmundsson (Genoa) for April’s award.
Previous winners this term include Rafael Leao (September), Lautaro Martinez (October), Dybala (November), Christian Pulisic (December), Dusan Vlahovic (January), Dybala (February) and Alessandro Bastoni (March).
How were the nominees selected?
According to the Serie A website: "The six players have been selected taking into account the advanced analysis of Stats Perform, created from the tracking data recorded with the Hawk-Eye system.
“The rating system considers not only statistical data and technical events but also positional data, making it possible to analyse crucial aspects such as movement without the ball and thus optimal movements, game choices, and the contribution to the technical and physical efficiency of the team, which allow for an objective and qualitative evaluation of the performance.”
