Atalanta's manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, rejected an offer from the Premier League to stay at Atalanta.

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini revealed that he recently turned down an economically significant offer to move to the Premier League as he preferred to stay in Italy.

The 66-year-old coach recently led Atalanta to their first major trophy since 1963, which placed him on the radar of a number of clubs. According to him, he received an offer but chose to turn it down.

What Gasperini said

In a conversation with Gazzetta, per Fabrizio Romano, Gasperini said that he received a significant offer from a Premier League club recently.

However, he explained that he did not accept because he did not want to leave Italy, and he sees his future with La Dea, a team he recently led to a historic victory.

“I’ve received an important proposal from a Premier League club in the recent days, weeks.”

“I can’t accept and leave Italy now; I feel good here and I’m planning my future here with Atalanta.”

The Europa League title was Gasperini’s first-ever title in 21 years of management; however, he had led Atalanta to remarkable relative success.

He took the Bergamo-based club to their first-ever Champions League campaign in the 2019/20 season, when they reached the quarterfinals.

He repeated the feat for the following two seasons, however, with decreasing success, stopping in the Round of 16 in 2020/21 and crashing out in the group stage of 2021/22.
