The Ingwe hierarchy is preparing for any eventualities after a section of dissatisfied members claimed they intend to ‘overthrow’ the current executive

AFC Leopards are planning for a potential chaotic Annual General Meeting following reports that a section of members intend to stage a ‘coup’ on the current office on Sunday.

The Dan Shikanda-led National Executive has come under pressure from some dissatisfied members and fans after yet another underwhelming season and ahead of the AGM this weekend, there have been reports that they plan to mess up the event.

However, Ingwe Secretary general Gilbert Andugu has allayed fears of any chaos, saying the club has put in place enough security in anticipation for any trouble.

“What I can tell our members is to come in a big number. We have enough security so there is nothing to worry. We shall have a full platoon of RDU (Rapid Deployment Unit). We shall have an AGM on Sunday and have beefed up the security,” Andugu told Pulsesporks.co.ke.

“We intend to have some few amendments on the constitution. Let us hold the AGM in a peaceful way as we prepare for our last match on Sunday against Kariobangi Sharks.”

Leopards executive branch secretary general Hosea Kisienya also distanced himself from such plans, insisting the members are only focused the agenda of the day.

“We are a group that is organised and we have not discussed anything like a coup. We want to have a good AGM. There are amendments to the constitution that we want but nothing like a coup because that will destabilise the club,” said Kisienya.

“The constitution was amended last year in June and we have sections that were not very well amended. One is about the term of office from three to four years in line with the Sports Act. We changed the constitution from three to four years but it starts from the next elections.

“We also want to have membership categories because we are looking at going corporate in the next one or two years. We will have platinum, gold, silver and bronze and then we will have a category for fans too. Fans who are aligned to the club who can be talked to and convinced to become members of the club.

“Currently, we only have one membership category from top to down right now where we charge Ksh1,200 for new ones and Ksh1,000 for renewals.”

Leopards have had a poor season and lie seventh on the table with 48 points with two matches remaining. They are on course for one of their worst finishes while extending their trophy less season to six years.

The club has also recently been rocked by a go slow involving the players, who boycotted training claiming unpaid dues, with captains Eugene Mukangula and Peter Thiong’o stripped of their roles in the wake of the fallout.

Leopards face Sofapaka in their penultimate match of the season on Wednesday before finishing the campaign away to Kariobangi Sharks on Sunday.
