Francis Baraza's coached side failed to secure victory in the Ingo Derby despite showcasing resilience and skill in a hard-fought encounter.

Kakamega Homeboyz were held to a hard-fought 1-1 draw by AFC Leopards in an FKF Premier League match at the Mumias Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The draw saw Leopards move to seventh place on the league standings while Abana Abeingo climbed to 12th following the result.

The early momentum went to Ingwe as they searched for an early goal which could have unsettled the Abana Abeingo defence.

Sydney Lokale and Ronald Sichenje were looking dangerous in the attack for the visitors.

However, Ingwe could not seriously test Uganda internationa James Ssetuba in the Abana Abeingo goal-posts.

Leopards improved as the match progressed and they created the first real chance in the 22nd minute.

Ovella Ochieng had his free kick from the left wing hit the post with the host goalkeeper Ssetuba well-beaten.

Homeboyz had begun building real pressure by this stage, but the cooling break allowed Leopardsto to reorganize and stem the tide somewhat.

Fred Ambani's side broke the deadlock in the 34th minute, with Ovella Ochieng converting a stunning free-kick to give his team the lead.

AFC Leopards led 1-0 at the break, having been fortunate to escape punishment for a clear handball by goalkeeper Humphrey Katasi outside his penalty area in injury time.

Francis Baraza responded with a double change in the second half, bringing on Oliver Majak and Peter Thiong'o to replace Alvin Ochieng and Pius Wangi, necessitating a tweak in the formation.

Kakamega Homeboyz showed far more urgency in attack and notably threatened in the 53rd minute when midfielder Glen Masava struck a low shot wide of Humphrey Katasi's left-hand post.

Pius Wangi had two chances to extend AFC Leopards' lead in the closing stages of the match, but the forward placed both efforts narrowly wide of the target.

Humphrey Katasi was in excellent form between the posts for AFC Leopards, producing a crucial diving save to deny Glen Masava's header and keep Kakamega Homeboyz at bay.

AFC Leopards coach Francis Baraza introduced Kennedy Odhiambo late in the match to bolster the defense as the FKF Premier League side looked to protect their slender lead.

Despite Homeboyz's efforts, including a lively performance from Kevin Amwayi and Glen Masava in attack, AFC Leopards' defense stood firm.

In the end, AFC Leopards were held to a 1-1 draw by Kakamega Homeboyz, as Potiphar Odhiambo pulled off a dramatic equalizer for the hosts in the sixth minute of added time.
