AFC Leopards defender has received his first call-up to the Harambee Stars for the Four Nations Tournament in Malawi.

AFC Leopards have announced the inclusion of their left-back Vincent Mahiga in the Harambee Stars squad set to compete in the Four Nations Tournament in Malawi.

The tournament, which will take place on Saturday 23 to Tuesday 26 March sees Kenya aiming to sharpen their skills in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaigns.

Mahiga is scheduled to join the Harambee Stars in Lilongwe after the team's departure on Thursday, just in time for their opening match against the hosts, Malawi, at the Bingu National Stadium.

His selection comes amid last-minute adjustments by national team head coach Engin Firat, necessitated by injuries within the squad.

Specifically, Dennis Ng’ang’a was ruled out due to fitness concerns, and Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma could not fully integrate with the team following an injury last week during club duties with Rakow Czestochowa.

In response to these challenges, Firat also called up Gor Mahia defender Geoffrey 'Simiti' Ochieng, ensuring the team remains competitive.

"Congratulations Vincent Mahiga for earning a late call-up to the National team," AFC Leopards proudly announced, signaling the high expectations placed on Mahiga’s shoulders as he steps into the international arena.

Mahiga will depart from the country on Thursday afternoon alongside Gor Mahia's Sharrif Musa.

The youngster will not be alone in representing Leopards at the international level; he joins fellow club members Kayci Odhiambo, who is with the senior team, Beja Hassan and Christopher Koloti, who will participate with the U-20 team, showcasing the depth of talent within the club's ranks.

The Four Nations Tournament offers a crucial platform for the Harambee Stars to gain valuable match experience against other national teams.

This experience is deemed essential for the team's preparation and cohesion as they gear up for the challenges that lie ahead in the qualifying rounds for the upcoming tournaments.
