FKFPL: AFC Leopards install Tom Juma as head coach after snubbing Luc Eymael

Fred Ambani will be assistant to Juma as Webo remains goalkeeping coach.

Twelve-time Kenyan champions AFC Leopards have made a clean break from the recent past and confirmed a local tactician as their head coach.

That has, however, come at a huge cost as the immediate former head coach Patrick Aussems has left Ingwe plagued with a Sh20 million bill and another debilitating transfer embargo.

Tom Juma, the erstwhile assistant to Aussems no has full control and will be tasked with leading the success starved outfit to a title hunt that has proven elusive since 1998.

“Tom Juma has been at the club and knows what we need as a team. We also settled on him for continuity’s sake and will give him all the support he needs to perform well. There are other items that were considered that must remain guarded but the long and short is that we will all be behind Juma,” embattled chairman Dan Shikanda said

There have been calls for respectable remuneration for local coaches if not equal to what community clubs dole out to foreign hires. The Ingwe management however, steered clear of discussions pertaining to Juma’s pay.

Salaries and other income issues are confidential matters that must not be splashed out for all to see, unless you are a public servant. In that regard we respect the coach’s privacy and will not disclose his salary unless you find him and he agrees to tell you that himself,” another club official who did not wish to be quoted disclosed

Leopards have in recent past cast their lot with foreign coaches with little success realized. Amid the huge wage bill and burgeoning debt the club has raked in from faulty contractual terminations of players and coaches from beyond the borders, the club has now settled to the local scene. How long they will stick to local coaches remains to be seen though.

Juma will be deputized by Fred Ambani as vastly experienced Lawrence Webo takes charge of goalkeeping department.
