FKFPL AFC Leopards player ratings: Ingwe players leave a lot to desire as Gor Mahia claim Mashemeji derby bragging rights

Mark Kinyanjui 08:14 - 08.10.2023

Most of the AFC Leopards players produced dismal performances on the afternoon as they were brushed aside 2-0 by Gor Mahia.

It has been a horrific start to the season for AFC Leopards, who lost 2-0 to their sworn rivals Gor Mahia, making it their sixth straight game without a win, with their last victory coming in the FKF Cup against Ulinzi Stars in July.

Many Ingwe players left Kasarani Stadium with their heads hanging, as the result itself epitomized the underwhelming performances they produced.

Without further ado, Pulse Sports brings you the AFC Leopards player ratings, and fair to say, that most will not be surprising given the result.

Opiyo Levis- 4

It was not one of Opiyo’s better showings, as he conceded two goals to Gor Mahia inspired by Benson Omala. He mistimed his attempted rush out to come and win the ball, which allowed Omala to put the ball into the empty net.

For the second goal. He could have done better coming for the cutback by Sibomana which allowed Omala to pass the ball into the back of the net.

Randy Bakari -5

Bakari did not do much wrong but did not do much right either, displaying a rather average standard five-ish performance at best.

Vincent Mahiga -5

Mahiga tried to make things happen by bombing up the pitch to whip in crosses, but most of them were either under hit or over hit and did not really stand out.

Odhiambo Kaycie- 5

Kaycie Odhiambo produced a rather forgettable performance on the day. Normally very assured on the ball and integral to their build up play from the back with his passing range, he barely gave any line breaking passes, and defensively, should have done better to help cut out the second goal, although it looks offside on second watch.

Lwangu Emmanuel- 4

Lwangu had a shaky defensive display and for the second goal, was undone by Patrick Sibomana as he nonchalantly dribbled past him before passing the ball to Omala who could hardly miss.

Musa Oundo-6

Musa Oundo is one of a few AFC Leopards players who actually held their own. He did well to win the ball in midfield and tried to pass the ball forward at every available opportunity, but his players let him down.

Cliff Nyakeya- 3

The captain for the afternoon, Nyakeya was shocking. He struggled to get going on the right flank, and even when he was taken to the left flank, struggled to penetrate Gor Mahia’s defence.

Rooney Onyango read him like a book, and even in opportunities he had a chance to whip dangerous balls in, under hit, and overhit them countless times before he was subbed off for Jaffari Owiti.

Boniface Kweyu-6

Boniface Kweyu partnered with Musa Oundo in midfield and actually did quite okay. He came for the ball, resisted pressure, and passed it forward. However, it was not enough to help avoid a second defeat of the season.

Brian Yakhama -5

Brian Yakhama was enthusiastic leading the line and tried to make things happen, but by the time balls were being whipped into the box, he barely got on the end of them.

Victor Otieno-6

Another player with reason to hold his head high, Victor “Aguero” Otieno tried to make things happen by receiving the ball between the lines. He dribbled through the middle and tried to link well with his wingers and Yakhama, but his final ball was not effective enough. He gets a 6 for trying though.

Clifton Miheso-5

Clifton Miheso did not really get going. His crossing was wayward, as well as his deliveries with his left foot in the afternoon.

He did however attempt a dangerous ball over the top from the right flank onto the path of Yakhama, but the former FC Talanta forward was not able to get on the end of it.
