AFC Leopards have explained the progress being made by captain Washington Munene who has been out injured for the last two weeks

AFC Leopards are hoping for a quick return to action for captain Washington Munene who has been out for two weeks with an ankle injury.

Munene suffered the injury when Ingwe faced Bandari in Mombasa on October 22 in what was coach Tomas Trucha’s first match back in charge of the club, which ended 1-0.

No timelines have been provided on when the left-back is expected back but Ingwe hope for a quick return for one of their experienced players.

“Our captain Washington Munene continues to recover from an ankle injury he suffered in our match against Bandari FC at Mbaraki Grounds. Quick recovery, Washy. We're looking forward to seeing you back in action,” the club said on Friday.

Former Nzoia Sugar man Vincent Mahiga has deputised in the absence of Munene and he will be required to step up again against Nairobi City Stars on Saturday.

Besides Munene, Leopards will also be without key midfielder Cliff Nyakeya who is nursing a calf injury sustained during the club’s 1-0 victory over Nzoia Sugar last weekend.

“Cliff Nyakeya suffered a right calf muscle strain in our FKF-PL match against Nzoia Sugar FC at Sudi Stadium. He will resume training with the rest of the squad next week,” the club posted on social media earlier on Friday.

“He missed our midweek match against Kariobangi Sharks and will also be sidelined tomorrow as we clash with Nairobi City Stars at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani. We wish him a speedy recovery, and we are looking forward to seeing him back on the field soon.”

Trucha’s men are 14th on the log with eight points and the City Stars clash represents a chance to secure a second win of the season as Nicholas Muyoti’s men are equally struggling, sitting one place and a point above Ingwe.

Muyoti’s side has failed to win their last four matches, including three defeats, and Ingwe will hope to capitalise on their poor form but Simba wa Nairobi will draw inspiration from the two side’s last meeting when they won 2-1 in May to secure their top-flight status.
