Ingwe have extended the contract of a promising young defender amidst interest from South Africa clubs.

AFC Leopards are taking proactive steps to ensure the stability of their squad by securing the services of key players for the foreseeable future.

Among the latest moves is the intended extension of utility player Emmanuel Lwangu's contract which has been extended following the expiry of his initial two-year contract.

The young defender, who first joined Leopards in the 2022/23 season from the Green Commandos of Kakamega High School, has quickly become a vital part of the team's plans.

Despite not playing in his first season due to a transfer ban imposed on the club, Lwangu made a strong impression in the subsequent season, featuring in 10 matches and logging 615 minutes on the pitch.

“It has been a privilege playing for this team for the last two years and being a rookie, I have really learned a lot from the senior and experienced players in the team on and off the pitch.

"I’m thrilled to have renewed my contract. It is an incredible opportunity for me. I am grateful for the trust that the club has shown in me. It is a great honor," Lwangu told the club website.

His contract extension is seen as a crucial development for Ingwe as they aim to solidify their roster with consistent and promising talents.

Lwangu's commitment to the club is not just a win for the team but also a personal victory for him as he seeks to lift his first trophy with the club.

“I am motivated by having this opportunity to learn and grow in my career. Being part of this team allows me to challenge myself and improve my skills," Lwangu added.

The young player is focused on increasing his playing time and contributing more significantly to the team’s success.

"I am hopeful that with the help of our able technical bench and teammates, we will grab some titles at the end of the season."

Lwangu's journey to professional football began at Vapor FC with significant early experiences at Kakamega Primary and Kakamega School.

His performance in the 2018 secondary school championship was a standout moment, paving the way for his professional ambitions.

Before making his mark at AFC Leopards, Lwangu showcased his potential with the Western Division 1 side Green Commandos.

Since making his debut for AFC Leopards in the 2023/24 season opener against FC Talanta at Nyayo Stadium he has been progressively securing his place in the team.
