Ingwe remains eighth in the FKF Premier League following their draw away to Kakamega Homeboyz at the packed Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

The Ingo derby between Kakamega Homeboyz and AFC Leopards ended in a goalless draw at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Sunday afternoon.

Leopards looked to continue their unbeaten run as they traveled to Western Kenya to take on their rivals Kakamega Homeboyz.

Ingwe went into the clash on the back of an impressive seven  game unbeaten streak in the FKF Premier League.

With Moses Shumah relegated on the bench for Homeboyz, Levis Barasa was given a run alongside Hilary Otieno while Glen Masava took over the playmaker role.

Meanwhile, AFC Leopards too made changes with the most notable change, being the exclusion of Rwanda international Arthur Gitego.

Going into the game, Leopards had scored just ten goals in seven games, and this saw them hungry for goals as they went onto the attack from the off.

Ingwe captain Kayci Odhiambo had the game’s first chance in anger as he lined up a shot from outside the box but the youngster lacked his usual accuracy.

At the other end though, Homeboyz came within a whisker of a surprise early goal that would have excited a packed house as Barasa saw his attempt roll across the face of goal.

The opening stages were certainly a thrilling and open affair, and arguably the half’s best chance fell to Boniface Kweyu. The former Nzoia Sugar man was brilliantly set up by Jafari Owiti but his effort was too close to James Ssetuba, who made a good save.

Having settled into the game, Homeboyz were unlucky not to go in front after 25 minutes when Moses Mudavadi won the ball in midfield before firing a shot into the hands of Levis Opiyo.

The pace of Ingwe’s front line was proving difficult to deal with for the Abana Abeingo defenders and Beja Hassan was enjoying one of his better performances since joining Leopards as he relished playing in a more advanced role.

With the half hour mark approaching, Beja was again in the thick of things, this time his effort cannoned off the woodwork after he made a late darting run into the box.

Leopards were completely dominant in the first half and Moussa Oundo also came close to getting the opener but he could only watch on as his effort flew just wide of the target.

Kakamega Homeboyz came into the game late in the half  but  neither side was able to find a way through their opponents defense in the opening 45 minutes, leaving the match goalless at the interval.

The second half on the other hand was a lot more tentative with Leopards happy to sit back and soak up the pressure.

This saw Homeboyz forced to play the waiting game as they looked to weave their way through a rigid backline which consisted of former Wazito FC man Aziz Okaka.

Jaffari Owiti and Victor Omune looked disjointed in the middle of the park as they struggled to supply the likes of  Hassan and Otieno.

Beja Hassan was also not in the game, and it did not come as a surprise when Tomas Trucha took him off in the second half.

The former Nzoia attacker was the first to go off as Trucha introduced Cliff Nyakeya in an attempt to freshen things upfront.

Kakamega Homeboyz dominated proceedings, and at one stage, they had over 65 percent of ball possession, but even then, they still could not  hurt Ingwe.

Leopards squandered another good goal scoring chance following a counter-attacking move after 75 minutes.

Nyakeya failed to fire Leopards ahead as his close-range attempt went wide.

The visitors then turned to Boniface Kweyu as Luke Namanda found himself isolated for the better part of the second half.

However, Brian Yakhama  also struggled as Ingwe  failed to break down Abana Abeingo.

But in the end, they would be pleased with a draw as they remained eighth on the table with 31 points from 21 games, while Kakamega Homeboyz stayed seventh with 33 points.

How they lined up:

Kakamega Homeboyz: James Ssetuba, Shafiq Batabuze, Brian Chala, Salim Hamisi, John Omondi, Oliver Majak, Francis Omondi, Moses Mudavadi, Hilary Otieno, Levis Barasa

AFC Leopards: Levis Opiyo, Aziz Okaka, Vincent Mahiga,Kayci Odhiambo, Radi Bakari, Moussa Oundo, Jafari Owiti, Boniface Kweyu, Maxwell Otieno, Victor Omune, Beja Hasan
