Ingwe fans are anticipating the first-ever awards gala to honor AFC Leopards top performers from the 2023/2024 season.

Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) side AFC Leopards are gearing up for a historic event as they prepare to host their first ever end-of-season awards gala.

Scheduled for August 21, the event aims to honor the top performers of the 2023/2024 season celebrating the players, fans, and branches that have stood out in their contributions to the club.

The gala, organized by the U-45 Unite Branch, will see awards presented in six categories, including 'Best Player of the Year', 'Player’s Player of the Year', and 'Fan’s Player of the Year', which is determined by fan votes.

Additional categories open to public voting are 'Fan of the Year' and 'Branch of the Year', recognizing the dedicated support from the club's fanbase and organizational branches.

"The first project for U45 Unit Branch is to organize, finance, and implement the first ever AFC Leopards FC Player’s Award Gala, where exceptional and stand-out players will be awarded for their contribution towards the success and progress of the club during the 2023/24 season," said a club statement.

While the full list of nominees has yet to be announced, several players including defender Kayci Odhambo, winger Clifton Miheso, and midfielder Arthur Gitego are already being touted as potential frontrunners for these prestigious awards.

These players have been pivotal in Leopards' performance this season, helping the team secure a fifth-place finish in the league with 51 points, just behind leaders Gor Mahia, Tusker, Kenya Police, and Bandari.

"AFC Leopards 2023/24 Awards Night Gala is slotted to take place on Wednesday the 21st of August 2024 where the fans’, players, and sports journalists will vote to decide who wins the four big prizes," the statement added.

This gala comes on the heels of the FKF Awards where AFC Leopards players missed out on major accolades.

Gor Mahia's Austin Odhiambo dominated the FKF Awards, bagging the 'Player of the Year' title. He delivered an impressive tally of 13 goals and 12 assists, further highlighting his performance at the COSAFA tournament in South Africa with the Harambee Stars U-23 side.

Despite their rivals' success, AFC Leopards' gala represents a significant moment for the club, offering a platform for acknowledgment and celebration within their own ranks.

It is an initiative that fosters club unity and pride further endearing the team to its supporters.

The event not only marks a milestone for the club but also reinforces the importance of recognition within the sports community, providing an opportunity for players and fans alike to celebrate the achievements of the season.
