The move comes with Nigerian forward Victor Moses, a key figure in Nigeria’s AFCON 2013 triumph, struggling to make an impact at Kenilworth Road.
Edwards departs as Luton struggle to stay afloat
Edwards’ tenure at Luton Town will be remembered for the remarkable feat of guiding the club to its first Premier League appearance in over three decades after the gaffer took the reins in November 2022, steering the Hatters from 10th in the Championship to a playoff final victory at Wembley.
Despite a spirited fight in the Premier League, Luton were relegated after just one season and have failed to find their feet since.
This season has been particularly bleak as Luton currently sit 20th in the Championship, with just two points separating them from the relegation zone and four consecutive losses, including a defeat to QPR, sealing Edwards’ fate.
Speaking on the sacking, CEO Gary Sweet noted, “Results this season, especially away from home, have clearly not been acceptable.”
Victor Moses’ underwhelming season
Nigerian forward Moses, one of the heroes of the Super Eagles triumphant AFCON 2013 campaign, joined the Hatters in the summer, hoping to re-enter the spotlight, but things have not gone according to plan.
Since leaving Spartak Moscow to join Luton, Moses has been a regular for Luton, playing 17 of their 21 matches since his arrival, but has had little impact on the team, scoring only once and failing to provide an assist in that time.
With a managerial change looming, Moses will hope to retain his place in the squad and improve his performance to help the team claw its way out of danger.
For a player of Moses’ calibre, the coming months could be an opportunity to prove his worth and make a lasting impact at Kenilworth Road.
