Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman provides insight into his stellar form for the Super Eagles.
The resurgence of Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman in Nigeria's national team at the Africa Cup of Nations has been attributed to a strategic alteration in his role on the pitch, courtesy of the coach's decision.
Lookman's impact was evident as he assisted Victor Osimhen in securing a crucial draw against Equatorial Guinea. This stellar performance was followed by another standout display against the host country, Ivory Coast, aiding Nigeria to a hard-fought 1-0 victory. The best to date is his brace in the Super Eagles' 2-0 triumph over Cameroon.

Tactical Mastery: A New Role Unveiled
Lookman's newfound success can be traced back to his adapted responsibility within the team structure. Revealing insights into his adjusted role while speaking to OwnGoalNigeria.com at the team's media day, Lookman stated, “I have a slightly different role now. I drift more to the middle to play behind the main striker and it has helped me a lot to get on the ball and be close to goal, unlike when I was wide on the wings.”
Lookman's current role for Nigeria bears resemblance to his position at Atalanta, where he excelled as a hybrid striker. Last season, Lookman showcased his goal-scoring prowess with 13 goals and 8 assists, further solidifying his reputation as a versatile attacking threat.
With seven goals and three assists in 18 games, Lookman continues to thrive in his adopted role, leveraging his experience and skill set to propel Nigeria's offensive endeavours.
