Former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has shed light on the challenges facing Cameroon ahead of their highly anticipated 2023 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 match against Nigeria.
The clash, set to unfold at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, promises to be a thrilling encounter.

This defensive vulnerability could be a significant concern against a formidable Nigerian side. Rohr told The Guardian UK's Osasu Obayiuwana as reported by Allnigeriasoccer, "They still have little defensive problems."
Internal Strife and Resilient Spirit
Another problem highlighted by Rohr is the apparent strained relationship between Cameroon’s goalkeeper Andre Onana and manager Rigobert Song.
This tension surfaced when Onana, a key player for Manchester United, was controversially benched after Cameroon's loss to Senegal, where they conceded three goals.
Despite this internal conflict, Rohr praised the Cameroonian team's resilience, citing their comebacks against the Gambia and Burkina Faso in previous matches.
"Crazy match, when you see the match you think it's finished as they were losing 2-1 five minutes to the end. In the last AFCON they were losing 3-0 to Burkina Faso and in ten minutes they came back to 3-3, which means these players never accept defeat," Rohr remarked.
Looking ahead to the showdown with Nigeria, Rohr expressed confidence in the Super Eagles, recalling their victory over Cameroon in the last 16 of the 2019 AFCON.
He emphasized the importance of mental strength, discipline, solidarity, and fighting spirit, qualities he believes the Nigerian players possess in abundance.
"It's a question of the spirit, mental strength, discipline, solidarity and fighting spirit. Most of the players, I know them very well in Nigeria, they can do it," Rohr concluded, setting the stage for a riveting contest between two of Africa's football powerhouses.
