Ahmed Musa: Super Eagles legend on verge of historic achievement with potential AFCON win
Nigeria captain Ahmed Musa will make history should the Super Eagles defeat Ivory Coast in the AFCON 2023 final on Sunday.
The match was not without controversy as a VAR check led to the cancellation of Victor Osimhen's goal, ultimately awarding a penalty to the South African side after a foul on Percy Tau by Alhassan Yusuf.
Tau, who engaged in a captivating duel with Nigeria's left wing-back Ola Aina, reflected on the disappointment of the loss, stating, as reported by Allnigeriasoccer, "It's sad right now. It doesn't matter how we played, it would have been nice if we won this one and we have the chances."
Words of Congratulations and Resilience from Tau
Despite the defeat, Tau graciously congratulated Nigeria and wished them success in the final, expressing, "Congratulations to Nigeria and all the best to them in the final. We'll go again and try for the third place. Hopefully, we will take something home."
Tau also commended Ronwen Williams, Bafana Bafana's hero in the previous shootout win against Cape Verde, despite his inability to save any of the penalties in this match.
"He tried his best to save some of the penalties but sometimes it happens that it's not your day. He saved us the last time and we're still happy with him. Congratulations to Nigeria," Tau added.
For Tau, the loss marked his second consecutive defeat against the three-time champions at the Africa Cup of Nations
