Benin Republic bounced back from defeat to Nigeria to beat Libya in their second AFCON 2025 Group D game.

The Cheetahs of Benin Republic recorded a 2-1 win against Libya in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.

This comes after the Super Eagles of Nigeria played out a 0-0 draw away against the Amavubi of Rwanda in their second group game.

Benin, playing in front of their home fans were shaky to start the first half.

In the ninth minute, Libya went in front through Faisal Mansour Ali Saleh Al Badri after he converted a penalty kick.

Gernot Rohr had to make tactical changes but the home side were unable to break down Libya as the North Africans took a one-goal lead to the half-time break.

Following the restart, Benin Republic were more fluid in attack and rewarded for their efforts.

Steve Mouine scored the equalizer in the 50th minute assisted by Junior Olaitan.

Olaitan would get on the score sheet in the 62nd minute when he converted a penalty to put Benin Republic in front.

The hosts were able to withstand a late surge by Libya to hold on for the win and get three points.

The victory means that Benin Republic bounced back from their opening group game loss to Nigeria moving into second place in Group D.

Libya on the other hand are bottom of the group as they drew their first group game against Rwanda in Tripoli.

They will now take on Nigeria in a home and away series during the next football international break.
