FIFA announces that an unprecedented three continents are set to host the 2030 World Cup.
The FIFA Council has reached a unanimous decision on the host(s) of the 2030 World Cup, and it is set to cut across three continents and six countries.
Prior to the announcement of three North American countries—the USA, Mexico, and Canada—as the hosts of the 2026 tournament, only once has there been more than one host for the Mundial—in 2002, when South Korea and Japan co-hosted.

FIFA has now taken it several steps further, as they announced six countries that will host World Cup games in 2030.
FIFA announces World Cup hosts
In a press release today, FIFA announced that its council has accepted the combined bid of Spain, Portugal, and Morocco as sole candidature to host the global spectacle in 2030.
Despite being on separate continents, with Spain and Portugal in Europe and Morocco in Africa, the three countries are in close proximity; Spain and Portugal share a border, while a tiny strip of waterway, the 13km-wide Strait of Gibraltar, separates Morocco from Spain.
In addition to these three countries, Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina will also be hosting one World Cup match each in celebration of the centenary year of the tournament.

The first match of the 2030 World Championship will be held at Estádio Centenário in Montevideo, Uruguay, the stadium where the first tournament was held in 1930. Argentina and Paraguay will host one other group stage game each.
FIFA president's statement
“In a divided world, FIFA and football are uniting,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said.
“The FIFA Council, representing the entire world of football, unanimously agreed to celebrate the centenary of the FIFA World Cup, whose first edition was played in Uruguay in 1930, in the most appropriate way. As a result, a celebration will take place in South America and three South American countries - Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay - will organise one match each of the FIFA World Cup 2030.
“The first of these three matches will of course be played at the stadium where it all began, in Montevideo’s mythical Estádio Centenário, precisely to celebrate the centenary edition of the FIFA World Cup.”
