African Pride: 25-second man Tella and Guinea's goal machine Guirassy open 2025 accounts

Nigeria Super Eagles forward Nathan Tella and his Guinean counterpart were on target in the five-goal thriller between Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund.

Nigeria’s Nathan Tella and Serhou Guirassy stole the spotlight as Bayer Leverkusen defeated Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in an exhilarating start to their 2025 campaigns at Signal Iduna Park.

Tella, the overlooked Super Eagles forward made headlines by scoring just 25 seconds into the match, setting a dynamic tone for Leverkusen. 

His powerful shot from the edge of the box came off a defensive error by Dortmund, marking his first Bundesliga goal of the season.

Leverkusen quickly followed up Tella's opener with two more goals within the first 19 minutes, courtesy of Patrik Schick.

Despite the early onslaught, Dortmund managed to respond, with Jamie Bynoe-Gittens finding the net, in between Schick’s goal, before Guirassy converted a penalty in the 79th minute.

The late goal from the Guinean goal machine took his season tally to seven goals and one assist as he continues to impress in his debut campaign with the Black and Yellows.

The match was a keenly contest clash, with Leverkusen holding on to their lead despite Dortmund's late surge. 

With the victory, defending champions Leverkusen are back in the Bundesliga title race, with just a point behind league leaders Bayern Munich.

Both Tella and Guirassy's performances reflect their importance to their respective teams as they return from the winter break ahead of a long second half of the season.

Meanwhile, in a related development, Super Eagles’ Victor Boniface followed with a keen interest in the intense clash between Werkself and Dortmund. 

Still out injured, the 24-year-old was forced to react with a cheeky post on social media after his national teammate Tella opened the floodgate in style. 

As reported by Pulse Sports, Boniface shared a two-word message before following it up with another post after the game.
