Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has revealed that he is still available to represent Nigeria at the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.
The 29-year-old forward has seemingly changed his mind about being available for selection for the continental tournament in Ivory Coast next year having earlier stated that the just-concluded AFCON 2021 in Cameroon was the last for him.
Musa remains a part of the Super Eagles squad and is currently one of the 27 players called up by new coach Jose Peseiro for the twin AFCON 2023 qualifiers against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe.
The Turkey-based forward arrived at the Super Eagles base on Monday and while fielding questions from newsmen, he confirmed his stance.
The Fatih Karagumruk player clarified pertaining his earlier comments: "That's what I said but I've not said I've stopped in the national team. The coach knows that I have something to give and that's why I came."
Musa pointed out that he is still playing active football and would accept the call of the new Super Eagles manager if he (Peseiro) feels the forward still has something to give the national team.
"The next AFCON is next year so I'm still playing active football . Definitely if I'm still playing active football, if the coach thinks I can give back to the team that's not my wish," Musa said.
"He's the one to call, anytime I get a call up I know this is my country I have to come. I don't know for now if I'll be at the 2026 World Cup."
Musa featured twice for the Super Eagles at the last AFCON in Cameroon, playing a total of 27 minutes against Sudan and in the quarter-final against Tunisia.
Overall, Musa has played 104 matches for the Super Eagles since making his debut in September 2010. Since then, he has scored 18 goals and bagged 14 assists for the senior team
