The tragic incident, which occurred near the city of Zaria in Nigeria, has left the retired Super Eagles forward in a critical but stable condition as he receives treatment at the Shika Hospital.

Babangida was travelling with his brother Ibrahim when the accident happened, with the latter tragically losing his life.
But the heartbreak doesn't end there, as Tijani's infant son, Fadil, also passed away during surgery, while his wife, Maryam, remains in the ICU after undergoing facial surgery.

Despite the unimaginable grief, Babangida's former club, Roda have joined Ajax, who rallied behind their beloved ex-player, to support the player with a touching video emerging on social media showing the star undergoing rehabilitation at the Dutch club's facilities.
This gesture from the Dutch side serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring bonds forged in the beautiful game, as the Nigerian football community rallies around Babangida during this profoundly difficult time.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but for now, the focus remains on supporting Tijani Babangida as he steers the path to recovery, both physically and emotionally.
Tijani featured in 78 matches for Roda scoring 26 goals while four-time European champions Ajax, he scored 20 goals in 77 matches during his time in Amsterdam.
