According to the communication, FAF said that they’re focusing their efforts on reorganising football in the country.

Algeria has officially written to CAF to withdraw their bid for hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The country presented a strong case after hosting a number of high-profile tournaments over the past year but has now backed down.

The newly-elected Algeria Football Association (FAF) president, Walid Sadi, announced the decision a day after meeting the country’s president Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

According to the communication, FAF said that they’re focusing their efforts on reorganising football in the country.

“The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) officially sent a letter to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) informing it of its decision to withdraw Algeria's candidacy for the organization of the African Cup. of Total Energies Nations (CAN), 2025 and 2027 editions,” FAF said.

They added: “FAF will now focus its efforts on the reorganization and revitalization of football in Algeria, as it reiterates its unwavering commitment to the development of African football.”

Pamoja bid

The move leaves only three bids to contest for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

They include the East Africa Pamoja bid that was fronted jointly by Kenya Uganda and Tanzania, Egypt and Botswana.

The Egyptians, who rank highest in terms of preparation, hosted the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations that, if CAF considers the spirit of fairness and spreading the game through the continent, would shelve it.

CAF will announce the winner of the bid on Wednesday 27th, in Cairo, Egypt, after the executive committee sits.
