Jurgen Klopp is clearly not impressed with the suggestion by the Chelsea owner that the Premier League should introduce an All-Star Game.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has reacted mockingly to an interesting suggestion by Chelsea owner Todd Boehly.
Boehly proposed that the Premier League should introduce an All-Star Game between the North and South.
According to the American investor and co-controlling owner at Stamford Bridge, the Premier League needs to take a leaf from the MLS.
“Ultimately I hope the Premier League takes a little bit of a lesson from American sports,” Boehly said. “And really starts to figure out, why don’t we do a tournament with the bottom four sports teams, why isn’t there an All-Star game?"
"People are talking about more money for the pyramid, in the MLB All-Star game this year we made 200m dollars from a Monday and a Tuesday. So we’re thinking we could do a North versus South All-Star game for the Premier League, for whatever the pyramid needed quite easily.”
Klopp mocks Boehly’s idea
The German coach was left shocked by the suggestion to introduce the US-style All-Star game.
Speaking on the issue after Liverpool’s hard-fought win over Ajax in the UCL on Tuesday, the 56-year-old said;
“He doesn’t wait long. When he finds a date for that he can call me,” he added. “In American sports these players have four-month breaks. Does he want to bring the Harlem Globetrotters as well?
“Maybe he can explain that. I’m not sure people want to see that - United players, Liverpool players, City players, Everton players all together. It is not the national team. Did he really say it?”
