Amputee footballer Marcin Olesky was given the Puskas award for the best goal in 2022
Marcin Olesky's incredible goal wowed the world and brought many to tears, and now it has been crowned the best goal of the year at the FIFA The Best ceremony, winning the coveted Puskas award ahead of 10 other nominees.
Marcin Olesky wins Puskas award with bicycle kick beauty
Olesky turns out for Warta Poznan in the Polish handisport league, and his goal against Stal Rzeszów had wowed audiences from the moment it was brought to public notice. Now it has quite meritoriously claimed the Puskas award for the best goal of 2022 at The Best FIFA award ceremony.
Olesky was indeed beautiful as he leapt into the air, abandoning all thoughts of safety, as he executed a deft bicycle kick from his teammate Dawid Novak's pinpoint cross.
Olesky describes feelings of pride as he watched his volley nestle in the corner of the net, saying, "You could see how proud it made me after I scored. I stood up tall, I put my chest out. I was just so, so happy.”
Olesky beats Payet and Richarlison to award
Olesky's goal beat 10 other incredible goals to win the award, including ones from Marseille's Dmitri Payet and Brazil's Richarlison, who also reached the final three.
The 35-year-old Polish player lost his left leg 12 years ago in a construction accident and still works as a construction worker today, alongside being a footballer with Warta Poznan and the Polish national amputee team.
