The Croatian beauty who has recently struggled with injuries opened up on her career and personal in an exclusive interview with Swiss outlet, 20 Minuten Sport.
When asked about her relationship status amid dating rumours with Portuguese footballer Tomás Ribeiro, she said: “Yes, we are a couple. I'm in a relationship with Tomas Ribeiro.”
Ribeiro is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays for Vitória S.C. as a central defender.
The 24-year-old centre back has played in his home country for most of his career, before moving to Switzerland to play for Grasshopper Zurich - the same club where his girlfriend plies her trade.
Markovic and Ribeiro have been in a relationship for a long time, although, the relationship had most been long-distance.
However, the blonde beauty revealed that the pair got to know each other better when he arrived Switzerland in January 2022.
“First and foremost, I also wanted to see if the long-distance relationship was working. Gossip doesn't interest me, “ she said.
“We got to know each other during his active time at GC. I realized when I got injured that I needed him by my side. He gives me support.”
Markovic also opened up on her dreams of a big move to the English Women’s Super League and the Women’s Bundesliga.
“First of all, I have to assert myself again in the Swiss league and when I have achieved the first goal, I can think about what to do next.”
The Croatia international, who also runs a start-up further expressed her desire to feature for her national team at the European Championships taking place in Switzerland in 2025.
“Of course, I will do everything I can to make Croatia qualify because it would be an honour for me to play in my home country,” she said.
Markovic’s impressive display as a forward for Grasshopper saw her earn her first call-up to the Croatian national team in 2021, a year after completing a transfer from Zurich FC, where she played at for three seasons.
So far, she has made 11 appearances, scoring once for the women’s team.
