Fenerbahce survived everything that was thrown at them by Anderlecht as they cruised into the Europa League Round of 16
Nigeria's Bright-Osayi Samuel was one of the heroes for Fenerbahce as Jose Mourinho's men confirmed their place in the next round of the Europa League after beating Anderlecht on aggregate.
The Turkish side ensured that they would be one of the teams in the last 16 of the Europa League after their 2-2 draw in Belgium sealed a 5-2 aggregate win following a 3-0 first-leg victory in Istanbul last week.
How it happened
Following their 3-0 win over Anderlecht in the first leg of the tie, Fenerbahce's trip to Belgium was expected to be a mere formality with the Super Lig giants already fairly certain of their place in the next round.
Fenerbahce's advantage was extended even further early in the game as Moroccan striker Youssef En-Nesyri gave them the lead inside the opening five minutes with a towering header.
The home side's fans were far from pleased with the trajectory of the match and a fight broke out in the stands midway through the first half that forced the game to be suspended for 15 minutes, with Nigerian full-back Osayi-Samuel seen trying to calm things down off the pitch.
After the game restarted following crowd trouble, Anderlecht found an equaliser through Luis Vasquez on the night to spark thoughts of a famous European comeback.
Vasquez struck again early in the second half to make it 2-1 on the night and 4-2 on aggregate with time on their hands as the home side piled pressure on Fenerbahce, hoping to pull off the improbable.

However, despite the spirit being shown by the Belgian football giants, Fenerbahce were in no mood to foster any hopes and dreams as teenage defender Yusuf Akcicek scored an equaliser to make it 2-2 on the night and 5-2 on aggregate, ending any chances of Anderlecht mounting a comeback.
The win sees Fenerbahce progress into the round of 16, where they could face Rangers or Olympiacos.
