Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana was not selected for Cameroon in their 2023 AFCON opener against Guinea after a dramatic 24 hours that saw him arrive hours to the match
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana was dropped from the Cameroon team despite linking up with the squad ahead of the start of their Africa Cup of Nations opener with Guinea on Monday.
Onana left Manchester aboard a private jet immediately after Sunday's 2-2 draw with Tottenham for the Ivory Coast.
His journey to the Ivory Coast was, however, disrupted by inclement weather that meant he had to land in the capital Abidjan rather than Yamoussoukro, where the match is being played, more than 200km away.

Andre Onana: Leaky Man United keeper departs for AFCON2023 after conceding more goals
Andre Onana was in goal in Manchester United's four-goal thriller against Tottenham at Old Trafford.
Onana would take a two-hour drive to Yamoussoukro, arriving just a few hours to kick off, but coach Rigobert Song seems to have already made up his mind on the matchday squad.
It was a dramatic end to a hectic 24 hours for the goalkeeper who left Liverpool at 10pm on Sunday and landed in Abidjan at 5:49am then tried to fly to Yamoussoukro at 7:14am but returned to Abidjan by 7:46am due to bad weather.
It is another saga involving Onana who opted to delay his arrival to Cameroon by two weeks to feature in Manchester United’s matches against Wigan and Tottenham.
The decision drew the ire of fans in Africa who felt he disrespected his country and the competition when he just recently made a U-turn over his international career.
Onana had retired after falling out with Song at the 2022 World Cup, getting sent from the team’s camp in Qatar, but after mending fences with his coach, he was welcomed back.
However, the latest drama adds more controversy and it remains to be seen if Fabrice Ondoa, who was handed the gloves on Monday, and Davis Epasy, the other goalkeeper at Song’s disposal, will be dropped for him in Cameroon’s subsequent matches.
