Valencia striker Rafa Mir has been arrested by the Spanish Guardia Civil police for an alleged crime of sexual assault, adding to the list of former Barcelona players embroiled in serious legal issues.

This arrest comes on the heels of another high-profile case involving ex-Barcelona and Brazil star Dani Alves, who was convicted of rape earlier this year.

Valencia CF acknowledged the situation in a statement, expressing their awareness of the arrest and their commitment to cooperating with the justice system.

However, Mir’s representatives have not yet commented on the situation. According to reports from Cadena Ser, Mir failed to appear for training on Tuesday, adding to speculation about the severity of the charges.

In addition to Mir, another individual allegedly involved in the incident has also been detained by the authorities as the details of the alleged assault have not been fully disclosed, and the investigation is ongoing.

Mir following in Alves’ dark footsteps

Mir is not the first ex-Barcelona star to face similar charges as earlier this year, former Blaugrana full-back Dani Alves was convicted of rape by a Spanish court.

Alves had been accused of assaulting a woman in the VIP section of Barcelona's Sutton nightclub on December 31, 2022 and after spending over a year in the Brians II prison, Alves was sentenced to four and a half years behind bars.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered Alves to compensate the victim with €150,000 ($163,000) and imposed a nine and a half year restraining order, prohibiting any contact with the victim upon his release. Alves was also required to serve five years of probation following his prison term.

Despite the conviction, Alves was released on bail after just six months as he launched an appeal against the court's decision.
