The Ulinzi Stars coach was impressed by two of his players' display during their match with KCB and is excited by what they add to his squad
Ulinzi Stars head coach Anthony ‘Modo’ Kimani has heaped praise on two of his young players after they helped hold KCB to a 0-0 draw at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday.
Ulinzi, who have been very inconsistent this season, managed to gain a point to help keep them out of the relegation places.
Although it has been doom and gloom, Modo was at least excited by two young players, namely Kenya youth international Lucas Maina who featured for the opening 45 minutes, and debutant Javan Omondi, who both contributed effectively in the hole.
“I was very impressed. I was very impressed with one Lucas Maina and of course Javan of course,” Modo told Pulse Sports.
“These are very young players who have got alot of quality, of course Lucas was in the U18 national team, he showed the country what he can do.
“This is another opportunity for them to keep on growing, to keep on developing and to keep on helping the team to do better.”
Modo has expressed his unwavering commitment to give players a chance in order to help Ulinzi achieve their targets regardless of their age.
“We have a coaching staff that believes in young players, that believes in experienced players. Anybody that shows us in training that he is ready to represent Ulinzi and give his best is always going to play.
“So going forward, you can expect to see a lot of Lucas, you can expect to see a lot of Javan and of course the other players that came on board as well that have joined us in the mid-season transfer window.”
Meanwhile, the gaffer has given his thoughts on his side’s draw with the Bankers.
“It was a tough match as we had expected but I am glad our boys today have been able to keep their concentration for the entire 90 minutes, I think this is the first time in a very long time that we have gone for 90 minutes without conceding in a match," he added.
“We have had alot of concentration lapses in these matches that have been very costly but at least today we were able to fully concentrate and ensure we do not concede.
“On the other end, we had a few opportunities we should have buried and got maximum points. It is a game of chances and whoever takes theirs wins, which we were not able to do that, neither were they.
“This is a point gained, not two lost. Now we will strategise how we will approach the match against Shabana.”
