Emiliano Martinez wins FIFA The Best Men's Goalkeeper Award
Emiliano Martinez was announced as the best men's goalkeeper of the year 2022 at the FIFA Awards held in the Theatre du Chatelet, Paris, France, on Monday evening.
The award comes after a standout World Cup campaign that helped Argentina win their third World Cup trophy, in which he picked up the Golden Glove to go with his Mundial trophy.
Martinez was particularly instrumental in Argentina's shootout wins over the Netherlands and France. And his late save, denying Kolo Muani a winner for France with his outstretched leg, will go down in history as one of the greatest saves ever.
Martinez also helped Argentina win the Finalissima trophy against Italy, as the Albiceleste picked up their second trophy on the way to a treble.
Martinez won the award over Belgium's Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid's Thibaut Courtois, and Morocco's shot-stopper, who plays for Sevilla in La Liga.
