By scoring two goals in each half in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Eddie Howe’s men, Arsenal recorded a Premier League milestone.

Arsenal set a Premier League record on Saturday after their 4-1 victory over Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal 4-1 Newcastle United

Mikel Arteta’s team went ahead after Sven Botman inadvertently put the ball into the wrong end in the 18th minute, with Kai Havertz netting six minutes later to double the home side's advantage. It stayed that way until Bukayo Saka's 65th-minute effort made it three, and Jakub Kiwior scored from another Arsenal set-piece four minutes later.

Joe Willock netted for the Magpies against his old club, but it was merely a consolation for Eddie Howe’s men, resoundingly defeated by the Premier League contenders. The Arsenal victory makes it six league triumphs on the bounce, with the Gunners defeating Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Liverpool, West Ham United, Burnley and Newcastle in that run. Saturday’s 4-1 success over the Magpies was striking for the milestone recorded.

Arsenal’s latest Premier League record

Having netted two goals in each half of football against Newcastle, Arsenal have become the first team in Premier League history to find the back of the net twice or more in seven consecutive halves.

This stat was revealed by Opta after the North London side’s win over Howe’s men, with Botman’s own goal and Havertz seeing Arsenal score twice in the first half to take the Gunners to six consecutive halves, while Saka and Kiwior scoring after the interlude made it seven uninterrupted halves of football in which they have netted as many or higher.

The record began against Liverpool when Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard scored in the game’s final 30 minutes, while first-half goals from William Saliba, Saka, Gabriel Magalhaes and Trossard at West Ham were followed by Saka and Declan Rice scoring after the break at the London Stadium.

First-half strikes from Martin Odegaard and a Saka brace sent Arsenal 3-0 up at Burnley before Trossard and Havertz found the back of the net after the break to make it five consecutive halves witnessing two goals or more from Arsenal after the previous Premier League gameweek.

That became seven on Saturday as Arteta’s side secured a deserved win over Newcastle to bounce back from their midweek Champions League defeat at the hands of Porto.

What comes next for Arsenal?

Arsenal’s latest Premier League win keeps the third-placed side firmly in the title race, with Manchester City a point ahead and league-leading Liverpool two points above the Gunners.

Arteta's team travel to Sheffield United on March 4 before hosting Brentford and Chelsea in London derbies prior to the imminent international break.
