Arsenal announce their second signing of the January transfer window.

Arsenal have signed Jakub Kiwior from Spezia.

The 22-year-old left-sided defender impressed in Qatar 2022, where he started all games for Poland.

Arsenal announced today that they have signed Jakub Kiwior from Spezia on a long-term contract. They did not disclose the fee. 

The centre-back would become Arsenal's second signing this window since missing out on Mykhailo Mudryk.

Kiwior would wear the number 15 jersey for Arsenal.

Arsenal's sporting director Edu, excited about his new signing, spoke via the club website:

"We’re delighted to have completed the signing of Jakub Kiwior," he said. 

"He’s a young talent who we’ve been monitoring for a while now.

"We are now all looking forward to working with Jakub and seeing his continued development with us."

The club's manager, Mikel Arteta, added:

"It’s great that Jakub is joining us," Arteta said, elated about his new addition.  

"He’s a young versatile defender who has shown huge potential and qualities with Spezia in Serie A, and also at international level with Poland.

"Jakub is a player who will give us strength and quality to our defensive unit. We welcome Jakub and his family to Arsenal and look forward to working with him.”

Arsenal sign a defender for now and the future

Kiwior signed for Spezia in the summer of 2022 from Polish club MSK Zilina, where he impressed in his two seasons there.  

At Spezia, the 22-year-old played 22 games in his first season and has started all but two games in Serie A this season.

He has won nine caps for Poland, four of which were at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Before playing for the Polish men's national senior team, Kiwior played through the youth ranks from the U-16 to the U-21.
