Marcelo has issued a warning to Arteta ahead of Real Madrid vs Arsenal champions league clash

Real Madrid legend Marcelo has sent a defiant message to Arsenal, insisting that his former club cannot be underestimated as they prepare to overturn a daunting 3-0 deficit in the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie on Wednesday.

Arsenal stunned the Los Blancos with a commanding victory at the Emirates Stadium last week, courtesy of a pair of stunning Declan Rice free-kicks and a well-taken Mikel Merino goal.

The result has left Carlo Ancelotti's side facing a significant challenge to progress to the semifinals.

What Marcelo said

However, Marcelo, who enjoyed a trophy-laden career with Real Madrid, including five Champions League titles, remains steadfast in his belief that the Spanish giants are capable of a remarkable comeback.

"You can never write off Real Madrid," Marcelo told ESPN in an interview from Mexico, where he is participating in a Club Legends Clásico.

He continued, "Although three goals is a lot of goals, but I am always thinking about Real Madrid and have a lot of faith that they'll come back. Real Madrid is Real Madrid and they always come back."

The Brazilian legend emphasised the advantage of playing the return leg on home turf.

"The return leg is at the Bernabéu, the fans will push hard and the players are confident it can happen. Of course, we don't know what will happen, we have faith and Real Madrid will come back," Marcelo stated.

Marcelo further explained that the mentality of never giving up is deeply ingrained in the Real Madrid culture.

"I think that from the moment we joined Real Madrid, we're taught to never give up, and that's always been in our blood. It's been like this for many years, and apart from the DNA, it's hard work, humility, daily dedication, and the support of the fans as well. It's all part of making things work," he said.

While Real Madrid have a history of dramatic comebacks in the Champions League, they have never successfully overturned a 3-0 first-leg defeat.
