The Gunners are hoping to explore the same route that got them their current captain, Martin Odegaard
Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a move for Real Madrid’s highly-rated teenager Arda Guler in a bid to rejuvenate his stalling career.
This follows the Gunners’ successful acquisition of Martin Odegaard from Los Blancos in 2021, a transfer that has since turned into a masterstroke.
Arsenal’s Odegaard blueprint inspires Guler move
Much like Odegaard, Guler arrived at Real Madrid with lofty expectations but has struggled for game time, making Arsenal hopeful of striking a similar deal to aid his development and bolster their squad.
The Norwegian midfielder joined Real Madrid as a 16-year-old prodigy, but despite his immense talent, he struggled to make an impression on the star-studded first team.
Loan spells followed, including a crucial stint at Arsenal, where he flourished and eventually joined permanently in 2021.
Today, Odegaard serves as the Gunners’ captain and one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders.
Arsenal now hopes to repeat history with Guler, another precocious talent who joined Real Madrid in 2023 amid significant fanfare.
Arsenal ponder loan deal for Real Madrid youngster
The Turkish playmaker has been unable to establish himself in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, partly due to limited opportunities and Real Madrid’s crowded midfield options and Arsenal believe they can offer him the platform he needs to shine, just as they did with Odegaard.
According to Sport, Arsenal is pursuing a loan move for Guler in the January transfer window. Such a deal would allow the teenager to gain valuable minutes in a competitive environment while also addressing Arsenal’s need for creative depth in midfield.
However, a permanent transfer appears unlikely at this stage, as Real Madrid are reportedly unwilling to part with Guler long-term.
This could pose a challenge for Arsenal, who may view a short-term loan as a double-edged sword, especially if Guler’s performances reignite Real Madrid’s interest in keeping him.
